Environmental benefits of going solar

Most electricity in the US is generated by burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. Extracting these carbon based fuels from the ground is expensive and harmful to the envirnoment and humans in many ways. On the hand, the fuel for solar power is free, clean and abundant. Amazingly, if we could capture all the sun’s energy shining on the Earth for just one hour we could power the entire world for one year.

Producing electricity from the sun and solar panels rather than fossil fuels dramatically reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases, like CO2, lead to increased global temperatures impacting our world climate; droughts, wildfires, major storms, and floods, which cause misery and suffering to millions of people and animals every day.

PV solar also creates very few air pollutants and leads to reductions in nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter in the air. These cause respiratory and heart problems for many of us.

Going solar cuts all these environmental impacts. The average rooftop solar array in Maryland and Delaware eliminates as much CO2 as 55 mature trees do every single year!

A typical 30 year old tree absorbs about 190 pounds of CO2 per year. One kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity from fossil fuels produce 1.1 pounds of CO2. The typical 8kW solar array (about 25 solar modules) in the Mid Atlantic region will produce about 10,400 kWh per year. So, 10,400 kWh of solar energy divided by 190 lbs of CO2 absorbed by a tree = 54.74 trees.

Trees absorb CO2 from the air. Solar eliminates fossil fuel generated electricity. Having both are huge wins for the environment and our health. KW Solar Solutions can help you with solar part of the equation.
